Brooke is a licensed mental health counselor with a diverse background of experience Copy of Copy of Martin_Brookecounseling and advocating for individuals in a variety of community based social service settings. Brooke’s clients have described her style as direct, genuine, easy to relate to, and motivating. Brooke uses an eclectic blend of treatment approaches, individually detailing treatment to meet her client’s unique needs and desire for change and growth. In your sessions with Brooke you can expect a collaborative, non-judgmental approach. You will be led through a journey of self-discovery and growth, increasing your self-confidence in your abilities to cope and overcome life’s barriers and stressors as they present themselves.

Brooke’s areas of specialties include depression, anxiety, personality disorders, chronic pain, trauma (PTSD), life transitions, grief, chronic mental illness, and substance use disorders. Brooke works with teenagers, adults, and group therapy.

Brooke is a certified Dialectical Behavioral Therapist (DBT) and enjoys assisting her clients in developing and strengthening their skills in areas of emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness. These skills aide in developing more effective functioning in daily living and increase positive feelings which in turn enhance overall emotional well-being. Brooke also incorporates skills from other treatment modalities including, but not limited to, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).

Brooke has been married for twenty years and has two sons, one in high school and one in college. She enjoys spending as much time as possible outdoors in nature (her favorite form of meditation), tending to her flower beds, kayaking, hiking, spending time with her friends and family, and volunteering at the Dubuque Botanical Center.
